Banco

Banco

Part of collaboration with Emily King for Art Basel 2011

Roger Excoffon designed Banco as a titling font for the Fonderie Olive in Marseille in 1952.  The original character set contained only capitals, but subsequently other designers have added lower case letters. Ubiquitous in France in the 1950s and 60s, Excoffon’s work fell out of favour in the late twentieth century, but has been thoroughly embraced in the first decade of the twenty-first.
